Adaptive Riding Volunteers |
Stable and Farm Work |
Support Roles |
HORSE LEADERS are responsible for controlling the horse at all times. Experience in horse handling is required. The horse in addition to the rider is your responsibility during class. You reinforce the rider's signals to the horse either while leading or by assisting the rider verbally at a distance as they become more independent. You help maintain proper distance from other horses in the class while walking, changing directions, and passing. You do not directly support the rider; that is the side walker's job, if the rider has a side walker. This role takes extensive horse experience, and the ability to foresee safety concerns and hazards. This job is physical and requires volunteers to walk for up to an hour with the potential for light jogging.
SIDE WALKERS are responsible for the safety of the riders. During the class itself, your job is to provide support for the rider, specifically to maintain proper balance. Your instructor will give you directions on what type of hold to use for each rider. |
Grooming and cleaning stalls are just two parts of the actual barn work, but are very necessary. We always have a need for volunteers to:
- Groom horses - Clean stalls - Fix fences - Clean and organize equipment - Pulling weeds and maintaining the garden - Other odd jobs and projects We also have a running list of day projects that volunteer groups (scouts, churches, schools, families etc.) can assist with. If you have a group who would like to complete a day project, please give us a call. |
We always have a variety of needs away from the barn as well.
- Board members - Fundraising - Contacting participants - Organizing special events - Updating blogs newsletters & website - Photograph - Videography - Social Media If you would be more comfortable helping with the administrative side or special events, please let us know. |
